Transforming SMU Through Campus Collaborations
OIT WORKS CLOSELY WITH DEPARTMENTS AND TEAMS ACROSS ALL OF SMU TO IMPLEMENT AND ENHANCE TECHNOLOGY SOLUTIONS THAT
DRIVE BUSINESS PROCESSES. THESE INITIATIVES RANGE FROM MULTI-MONTH ENGAGEMENTS TO COMPLEX IMPLEMENTATIONS THAT MAY SPAN
SEVERAL YEARS. IT IS TRULY A PRIVILEGE TO WORK ALONGSIDE FACULTY AND STAFF ACROSS THE UNIVERSITY TO HELP IMPROVE PROCESSES
AND SUPPORT THE GREAT WORK AT SMU. THE FOLLOWING ARE A FEW OF THE IMPLEMENTATIONS AND PARTNERSHIPS FROM THE PAST YEAR.
Interfolio
The Provost’s Office has transitioned to a new
system for faculty activity reporting (FAR).
SMU’s use of the Interfolio faculty affairs system
has expanded to help faculty capture and
communicate their accomplishments each year
across scholarship, creative activity, teaching,
and service. OIT worked closely with the Office of
Faculty Success towards a smooth transition to
Interfolio, assisting with data transfer, cleanup,
and preparation for training faculty members.
With full adoption in Fall of 2025, Interfolio FAR
will simplify the data entry tasks required of
faculty by reducing form fields, automating some
loading of information, and providing the ability
to easily generate curriculum vitae.
OIT onboarded and provided training to several
staff in schools and units to develop and test data
extensions and audience lists for this new email
communications platform.
With the success of Marketing Cloud in
external communications, DEA and OIT began
exploring the potential use for internal campus
communications during the Spring semester.
A small pilot group was invited to participate,
comprised of several departments who regularly
send emails to the essential communication
lists. With the success of this pilot, additional
departments will be onboarded in the next
academic year.

Salesforce Marketing Cloud
In 2024, the University began the major shift
to Salesforce Marketing Cloud to increase the
efficacy of our communication across campus,
allow for more consistency in the branding of
the messages, and coordinate when messages
are sent to the various audiences. Partnering
