Comprehensive
Faculty Technology
Training Initiative
To support faculty and enhance
the integration of technology
in teaching, OIT offered a
comprehensive Faculty
Technology Workshop
program throughout the
academic year. The Fall 2024
series included 19 workshops, while
the Spring 2025 lineup comprised 18 specialized
sessions addressing key topics ranging from
Canvas fundamentals to advanced techniques for
AI integration.
“ These workshops help
ensure faculty are
equipped for a successful
start to the semester.”
JENNIFER MAYES
MANAGER OF CANVAS AND
INSTRUCTIONAL SYSTEMS
Core training areas focused on mastery of the
Canvas platform, with dedicated sessions on
assignments, calendar management, and syllabus
creation, as well as innovative assessment
strategies such as late work policies and extra
credit administration. The program placed
particular emphasis on AI literacy, delivering
multiple workshops on practical pedagogical
applications, AI-assisted course development,
foundational and advanced prompt engineering,
and guidelines for student engagement with
generative AI tools.
15 OIT PROGRESS REPORT 2024
Targeted technology sessions introduced faculty
to leading-edge resources, including PlayPosit for
interactive video feedback, Poll Everywhere for
enhanced student participation, Dropout Detective
for early intervention, and Copyleaks training for
upholding academic integrity. All workshops were
recorded and are available for on-demand access,
enabling faculty to engage with training content
at their convenience and promoting flexible
professional development that meets varied
scheduling needs and learning preferences.
Jennifer Mayes, Manager of Canvas and
Instructional Systems, has been pleased with
the reception of these sessions: “I truly value
offering Faculty Technology Workshops because
they provide an opportunity to connect directly
with faculty and support their success. These
workshops have quickly become an essential
part of preparing for each semester. With broader
outreach and growing attendance, we’re making it
easier for faculty to access the tools and strategies
they need through hands-on demos and best
practices. By covering topics from Canvas to AI
(and everything in between!), these workshops
help ensure faculty are equipped for a successful
start to the semester.”
