The classrooms were designed to offer faculty
a robust suite of technology tools to support
many different pedagogical approaches.
Multiple displays offer faculty the ability to
share different types of content while interactive
technology allows them to annotate and engage
with the content in new ways. Enhanced AV
conferencing technology includes tracking
cameras and microphones with coverage
throughout the room, providing the optimal
experience for remote guest visitors, hybrid
meetings, and enhanced lecture recording.
According to Mike Gebreselassie, Academic
Technology Service Director for Cox, “The
upgraded classrooms have expanded what’s
possible in a modern teaching environment.
Faculty can now move freely while teaching,
wirelessly connecting devices without being
tethered to the lectern. Digital interactive displays
support real-time annotation and content sharing,
making lessons more engaging and adaptable.
High-quality microphones and cameras make it
easy to bring corporate partners into the classroom
for live interactions with students. Even the
lighting design, aligned with circadian rhythms,
helps maintain focus and comfort throughout
the day.”

During the summer of 2024, OIT installed and
configured these new rooms and created training
and documentation to support the new technology.
A series of workshops were conducted prior to the
building’s launch, enabling faculty members to
engage in hands-on training and become familiar
with the enhanced classroom tools before the
academic year began.
In addition to the classrooms, team rooms and
conference spaces were also equipped with more
advanced technology to support meetings, group
projects, and team collaboration. Integrating
reservation systems in both Libcal and STABLE,
allowed the community to quickly reserve these
spaces for use.
