Enhancing Support of Teaching & Learning
OIT CONTINUED TO ADVANCE THE UNIVERSITY’S ACADEMIC MISSION WITH SIGNIFICANT IMPROVEMENTS TO CANVAS
INTEGRATIONS, PLAGIARISM DETECTION CAPABILITIES, COMPREHENSIVE FACULTY TRAINING PROGRAMS, AND STATE-OF-THE-
ART CLASSROOM TECHNOLOGY THAT ENHANCE BOTH FACULTY PRODUCTIVITY AND STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES.
New Technology with
Canvas Integration
Canvas serves as our primary learning
management platform for academic courses.
OIT routinely implements new features and
evaluates potential integrations to enhance faculty
instruction and student learning. This year, OIT
introduced Copyleaks, a sophisticated plagiarism
detection tool. Copyleaks utilizes advanced
algorithms to compare student submissions
against billions of web pages, scholarly articles,
and academic papers, offering comprehensive
plagiarism detection capabilities that meet or
surpass previous solutions. To facilitate seamless
adoption, OIT provided a wealth of training
resources, including recorded virtual sessions and
direct support via Academic Technology Service
Directors (ATSDs).
Poll Everywhere, which integrates with Canvas,
is now licensed campus wide. This online polling
system enables live audience engagement and
feedback during classes and presentations. The
integration with Canvas gradebook allows faculty
to easily integrate polling within a course lecture
and automate the data entry for participation or
assessment.
Additionally, a new attendance tracking platform,
Qwickly, was implemented for use beginning in
summer 2025. Qwickly enables faculty to record
attendance using various methods, including
manual check-ins, online options, and QR-code-
based systems. Attendance records can be synced
directly with the Canvas gradebook and provide
detailed reporting to support student management
and compliance requirements.
