MediaArchive.SMU
MediaArchive.SMU is a collaborative proj- ect between Central University Libraries, Development and External Affairs, and OIT that aims to centralize the storage and doc- umentation of valuable media including pho- tographs, audio recordings, and movies. The documentation of media creates easily search- able metadata.
The team completed the initial rollout and is now expanding the service across SMU. We are working on a tool that pro- vides metrics on database usage and media access. For more information, visit smu.edu/OIT/MediaBank.

Imperva
As the media reports, hacking incidents have been increasing in severity and frequency. This year, we implemented a Database Activity Monitoring (DAM) tool from Imperva, which allows SMU to monitor user access to databases. Malicious insiders and hackers have been known to steal data by exploiting unpatched systems, accessing accounts with default passwords, and leveraging administra- tive rights. DAM allows SMU to protect access to sensitive information, alert on unusual activ- ity, and provide security reports on how and when users or administrators have connected to databases like my.SMU or Blackboard.
