SMU Directory
In February, we added an online directory at smu.edu/Search/Directory. Visitors may search for contact information for faculty, staff, and students. This information is updated automatically based on the information in my.SMU.
What information is displayed?
First and Last Name
Campus Email Address
Phone Number (employees only) Affiliation
Department/School (employees only)
Safeguards protect the information from spammers or outside vendors that simply harvest emails. The user must enter one letter of the first name and a complete last name before any data is displayed. Search results are limited to 10 matches pre- venting random searches on common names and only displays the primary affilia- tion in the directory. Once the result is displayed, users may also download a virtual business card to save in their email client. After too many searches in a 24 hour window, a CAPTCHA (Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart) is required.

The upgrade process for Access.SMU was a highly coordinated endeavor. After nearly a year in project planning, the developers and module leads reapplied and tested hundreds of customizations for the SMU academic and administrative departments. During the upgrade itself, OIT personnel worked around the clock to ensure a smooth transition.
my.SMU consists of several modules including Human Resources, Payroll, and all student information. Behind the scenes, the HR and Payroll modules were separated from the student information modules. They are linked together but exist in separate databases. To reflect this change, Access.SMU was renamed my.SMU, cos- metic changes were made, and a contemporary design was applied. Underlying functionality is still consistent. New training materials are also being developed that reflect the new branding.
