Title: [Biblia latina]. Origin: [Northern France?: c. 1225]. Description: Decorated manuscript on parchment. 210 leaves. 22 x 15 cm. Double columns of 62 lines. Textblock: 10.5 x 9.3 cm. Binding: Seventeenth-century limp vellum. Comments: Written in tiny Gothic script in black, red and blue; lightly ruled with plummet; headings in red and blue; initials in red and blue throughout; several chapters are heavily annotated in a contemporary and a late medieval hand; rubricated interpolations in Baruch. Also known as "Biblia irregularis" due to the irregular order of the books. Decoration: Eight historiated initials, 63 floriate initials with animal heads and birds, similar to Gautier Lebaube atelier (i.e., in Branner), smaller initials in red and blue within red and blue with complementary pen work extensions throughout. Illustations include a donkey playing a harp, male torsos with weapons, etc. Provenance: (1) Celestines, Sens, 1681, inscriptions.(2) Bernard Quaritch, Ltd., London, 2001.
