Title: [Book of
Hours]. Use of Troyes. Origin: [France: c.1400 ]. Description: Illuminated manuscript on parchment. 112 leaves. 17 x 12 cm. Single column of 16 lines. Textblock: 10.5 x 7.4 cm. Binding: Nineteenth-century green morocco, tooled in blind and gilt, central eagle crest, with one clasp. In red cloth box Comments: Written in a gothic batarde script with brown and red ink, frame ruled, with ample margins. Text in Latin and French. Many leaves missing. Contains prayers for various occasions: for the repose of the dead, the Te Deum, Magnificat, Litany, etc. Misbound fragment of a Book of Hours. Decoration: Illuminated initials. Many gold initials on blue and mauve grounds with white filigree. Provenance: (1) Ernst Detterer, Chicago. (2) Brentano's, Chicago, 1948. (3) Dr. Lyle Sellers, Dallas, 1949-1964.
