 automatically. Faculty members can quickly place their syllabus info into the course and format the content easily. This centralized method of managing syllabi allows faculty to focus on what really matters: course content.
Faculty feedback has been positive, and the efforts of Instructional Systems Specialist Jennifer Mayes were critical to the success of the new system. “I’m so glad that Simple Syllabus was added to Canvas! It’s such a great tool that really benefits the University community as a whole,” Jennifer explains. “The tool is just that – simple. The features make it easy for faculty to use and provides a centralized place for students to see their course syllabi. I’m so happy that people are excited to use it!”
OIT Provides Tools and Services for Long-Term Faculty Success
OIT’s work is not simply to provide the tools, but also to continually educate and empower faculty to utilize these resources to improve their workflows, foster creativity, and increase student impact. Our Academic Technology Service Directors (ATSDs) have worked to bolster instructional technology training to a higher level of service and accessibility.
Simmons ATSD Jennifer Culver, Ph.D. has worked over the past year to create an internal rubric to help better align instructional support services provided on campus with greater campus priorities and student feedback. This Instructional Technology Services Rubric is intended to provide a handy way for Academic Technology Services Directors in the schools to consistently determine the proficiency levels across our main Instructional Tech Tools (Zoom, Canvas, Panopto) and then use that baseline in each school to determine the best support to offer both school-wide and one-on-one. With this new method, OIT’s Academic Technology Service Directors augment the efforts and initiatives from Academic Affairs and Deans in raising digital literacy in the classroom. The rubric
