Enhancing Teaching & Learning with New Tools and Services
2022 HAS PROVEN TO BE A TRANSFORMATIONAL YEAR
FOR THE ENTIRE UNIVERSITY. WITH THE SMU IGNITED
CAPITAL CAMPAIGN WELL UNDERWAY, NEW BUILDINGS
TAKING SHAPE ALONGSIDE THE REINVIGORATION OF ESTABLISHED
STRUCTURES, AND THE INTRODUCTION OF REVOLUTIONARY
TECHNOLOGY; THE ENTERPRISING, ASPIRATIONAL SPIRIT OF SMU
CONTINUES UNBOUNDED. AT THE VERY CORE OF THIS SPIRIT ARE THE INSPIRATIONS
AND IDEAS THAT BECOME REALITY IN OUR CLASSROOMS AND LABORATORIES. STUDENTS AND FACULTY CONTINUE TO WORK TOGETHER IN EXCITING NEW WAYS, AND OIT HAS BEEN AN ESSENTIAL PART OF FOSTERING THESE UNIQUE OPPORTUNITIES IN ACADEMIA BY ELIMINATING ADMINISTRATIVE BARRIERS AND PROVIDING WORLD-CLASS RESOURCES FOR LEARNING AND RESEARCH.
As teaching modalities continue to change, faculty requirements have changed with them. The Academic Technology Services team, along with the entirety of OIT, has worked to make these new faculty requirements as frictionless as possible, with several major initiatives already making their mark in simplifying the faculty technology experience.
Streamlining Syllabi with Simple Syllabus
Course syllabi are a crucial aspect of college life. More than a list of due dates and class sessions, the syllabus provides a window into the academic heart of a course. Students gain an understanding of objectives and expectations while faculty present their roadmap of discovery for the term. The status quo has been to wrangling with page formatting, deciphering which mandatory statements to include, uploading syllabi to multiple areas, and keeping all those multiple copies up to date. The myriad steps add to the administrative burden that faculty have long abhorred. Now, faculty have a new option to make managing syllabi a simple and more creative task.
Simple Syllabus arrived on campus in the late Spring of 2022, offering easy, robust syllabi creation directly within courses in the Canvas Learning Management System. All mandatory statements are included
