Do you want to learn more about the SuperPOD, M3, and the OIT research team? Visit smu.edu/OIT/Research/ DataScience to hear their story and how this unique infrastructure can fuel your research efforts.
Alongside the Data Science team, the IoT team has been working
with faculty to develop ideas into tangible products, such as an air quality monitoring device and a non-invasive Kinesiology lab LiDAR prototype. The LiDAR prototype uses depth sensing cameras to track the movement of a user in a space without the need to put trackers and devices on the user, allowing them to perform without hindrance. Visit smu.edu/OIT/Research/IoT for a quick look at many of these efforts from the IoT team.
The team has also been assisting faculty with their data science projects. From analyzing cell phone mobility data to understand cities to combating human trafficking, the team leverages expert faculty knowledge, accelerated by data
and advanced computing, to tackle real-world problems. The team also supports newcomers to data science by offering numerous training sessions on deep learning, text mining, and using tools like Python and R to solve typical challenges
in data science. From supporting cutting-edge research to onboarding the next generation of scholars,
OIT Research and Data Science Services are committed to advancing research, supporting faculty, and helping SMU on the road to R1.
