A Welcome From the CIO
CONSTANT CHANGE AND THE NEED FOR INNOVATION IS EVER PRESENT IN THE WORLD OF TECHNOLOGY, AND BOTH HAVE CREATED AN ABUNDANCE OF OPPORTUNITIES
FOR THE OFFICE OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY TO SERVE SMU THIS PAST YEAR.
WE CONTINUE TO WORK CLOSELY WITH INDIVIDUALS ACROSS CAMPUS TO UPDATE ENTERPRISE SOFTWARE, SUPPORT RESEARCH THAT ADDRESSES WORLD CHANGING ISSUES, AND IMPROVE IT SERVICES TO ENRICH THE EXPERIENCE OF ALL OF US ON THE HILLTOP. WE APPRECIATE THAT SMU ATTRACTS INCREDIBLE FACULTY, DEDICATED STAFF, AND TALENTED STUDENTS. IT DRIVES US TO PERFORM OUR BEST IN OIT.
This progress report marks the tenth year of documenting our annual accomplishments. Technology has changed considerably since 2013. Back then, we were discussing artificial intelligence, and today we are discussing, well, artificial intelligence. I looked back at a playlist that my daughter and I put together for a volleyball pool party in 2013, and I’m astounded that both Taylor Swift’s Never Ever Getting Back Together and Darius Rucker’s Wagon Wheel are over a decade old. Moving forward, I’m certain we will continue to debate both the power and the pitfalls of technology, and I am appreciative of everyone who gives their time and energy to assist with IT governance at SMU. Whether it’s high-performance infrastructure, classroom technologies, online software, or cybersecurity, we look forward to the next ten years of IT progress.
Our annual report showcases only a small portion of our work and achievements throughout the year. This work wouldn’t
be possible without an incredible team of employees who are committed to the academic mission, building relationships across campus, and delivering a significant quantity of exceptional work for SMU.
