Campus Command and Control Update
Over the past year, the Campus Command and Control (C3) initiatives hit all the major milestones for the Building Automation, Physical Access Control (CCure), Physical Identity and Access Control (SAFE), and Closed Circuit Video Monitoring (Genetec) projects. We completed the core IT architecture design and infrastructure setup and deployed in all new construction, such as Moody Coliseum, the University Data Center (UDC), and the new Residential Commons buildings.
Physical Access Control (CCure)
After completing the initial rollout to new buildings, the CCure project moved into phase two. We are now replacing the CBORD and CSGold systems on a building-by-building basis and enhancing campus lockdown capabilities as each building is converted to CCure.
Identity and Access Control (SAFE)
Milestones of phase one for the SAFE project included:
• Interfacing with the Account Management Automation Identity Management system for the provisioning, de-provisioning, and updating of identities
• Interfacing with the Residential Management System via my.SMU
• Managing new ID card production and re-carding of the campus community
• Interfacing with the CSGold and CCure systems to pass identity, credentials, clearances (permissions), and schedules
• Setting up an administrative interface and workflow capabilities for Residence Life and Student Housing (RLSH) to handle changes in permissions for students
• Enabling self-service for the SMU community to upload ID card pictures, report lost cards, and perform other routine tasks
Phase two is planned for implementation in 2015 and will rollout administrative functionality to other area man- agers, visitor cards (such as conference cards), and resolution for usability and remaining items from phase one.
Video Monitoring (Genetech)
Since last year, we moved about 400 surveillance cameras onto the Genetec system, including additional camera coverage for the new Residential Commons, Moody Coliseum, UDC, and the SMU Tennis Complex. The system is currently using about 100 TB of storage for recorded video. As an additional security enhancement, MessageNet mass notification has been integrated into the digital signage across campus, making it possible for Emergency Management to post messages at a moments notice. Beginning in January 2015, we will convert approximately 200 remaining cameras to the Genetec system. New camera installations will happen on an ongoing basis.
