Welcome
Our Strategic Commitment
to Innovation, Excellence,
and Partnership
SMU’s 2016–2025 strategic plan, Launching SMU’s
Second Century: Shaping Leaders for a Changing
World, is concluding. This ten-year roadmap guided
our institution through a period of remarkable
growth, with strategic goals focused on enhancing
academic quality, improving teaching and learning,
expanding research, enriching student life,
broadening global perspectives, and stewarding
resources responsibly. The Office of Information
Technology (OIT), in turn, used this document to
guide our departmental strategic plan to help enable
SMU’s vision.
Our own strategic plan focused on five pillars:
technology, research, teaching, innovation, and
excellence. With this as our guide, we shaped our
approach to delivering high-impact services and
solutions that empower faculty, staff, and students
across campus.
Advancing Research: Building R1 Capabilities
In support of Goal Three of the University’s strategic
plan—to strengthen scholarly research, creative
achievement, and opportunities for innovation—
OIT has laid a powerful foundation to enable our R1
aspirations. Over the past decade, we transitioned
from ManeFrame to M2, and then to the NVIDIA
SuperPOD and M3. We evolved our high-performance
computing services to provide our researchers
with the scale and speed required to tackle the
