I am pleased to share that Mai Bui has been appointed Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer for SMU.
Since stepping into the interim role on January 1, Mai has provided strong leadership for our Human Resources team while advancing key priorities across the University. She is focused on recruiting and developing top talent and strengthening our workplace culture, helping ensure SMU continues to compete for and retain the very best people.
Mai’s approach aligns closely with our strategic priorities, particularly our commitment to exceptional experiences.
She has also played a key role in leadership recruitment, policy development, and cross-functional efforts that support employee relations, campus safety and operations. In addition, she has supported important initiatives such as the implementation of the Taleo applicant tracking system, the University’s inaugural compensation study and the successful onboarding of new programs and units.
She joined SMU Human Resources in 2015 and has been promoted through its ranks, holding several positions, including HR Business Partner, Associate Director of Talent Acquisition and Talent Management, and most recently Director of Human Resources.
Mai also has a strong connection to SMU, earning her MBA from the Cox School of Business and currently pursuing a Master of Legal Studies degree through Dedman School of Law, reflecting her ongoing investment in learning and growth.
In addition to her professional expertise, Mai approaches this role with energy, care, and a collaborative spirit. She is committed to building an environment where people feel supported, valued, and empowered to contribute to our shared success.
