Exciting changes are coming to the Hilltop for both new and returning students! Starting fall 2026, SMU will move orientation and move-in dates earlier to strengthen our proud tradition of warmly welcoming Mustangs to campus life.
This will give first-year and transfer students more time to build friendships, explore campus, discover key resources and begin shaping their Mustang identities – all before classes begin.
The key opportunities of this shift are to:
Launch the SMU experience with purpose through a seamless, spirited sequence of academic and campus life events.
Boost student belonging, well-being and school pride through new and meaningful connections.
Equip students with the tools and support to help them thrive academically and personally.
Spark Mustang energy and excitement by immersing every student in SMU and Dallas from day one.
In the weeks ahead, other campus leaders will begin to share how faculty, staff and students can help make this initiative truly impactful. This effort reflects the collaboration and care that define SMU and our shared commitment to helping every Mustang feel at home, inspired and ready to start strong.
