Roy Ryden Anderson is the Vinson & Elkins Distinguished Teaching Fellow and Professor of Law at the Dedman School of Law, teaching courses in contracts, commercial and consumer law, and remedies. He joined SMU in 1969 on leave from the Beverly Hills, California, law firm of Kaplan, Livingston, Goodwin, Berkowitz & Selvin to assume the temporary position of executive director of the criminal justice program. In 1970, he left the law firm to become instructor of law and assistant dean of students. In 1972, he was promoted to assistant professor of law and served as associate dean for academic affairs until 1974. In 1977, he was granted tenure and promoted to associate professor of law. In 1980, he was promoted to professor of law. He holds degrees from Texas Christian University (B.A.), SMU (J.D.) and Yale University (LL.M.). He served as senior associate dean for academic affairs from 2003-09. He is the author of the two-volume treatise Damages Under the Uniform Commercial Code, co-author of Anderson, Bartlett & East's Texas Uniform Commercial Code Annotated, and co-author of the three commercial law volumes of Dorsaneo's Texas Litigation Guide. He has published more than 40 articles in law reviews and related publications. He received the Rotunda Outstanding Professor Award in 1977 and the law school's Don M. Smart Award for Excellence in Classroom Instruction in 1985 and 2000. He is a member of the State Bar of Texas and the American Bar Association; a Life Member of the American Law Institute; and a Life Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation. He retires as Professor Emeritus of Law.
