OIT Strategic Plan
During the
past academic year, OIT embarked
on a journey to redefine our mission statement and create our new strategic plan for 2022-2025. Although these
were two distinct efforts, the two initiatives merged as we decided to incorporate the mission statement as our outline for the strategic plan. The
new plan aligns with five key areas: technology, research, teaching and learning, innovation, and excellence.
The Office of Information Technology (OIT) serves the SMU community with technology solutions that promote research
and teaching, inspire innovation, and enable excellence.
The strategic plan was crafted with extensive feedback from OIT, individual schools, business units, and IT governance councils. Over 300 suggestions were compiled from a series of
exploratory meetings with each team in IT. The suggestions were then mapped to the specific areas of our mission statement and grouped under the appropriate goal or strategy. The final plan
outlines the series of objectives and deliverables for OIT spanning the next several years. Each objective was mapped back to the University Strategic Plan to ensure our efforts are well aligned
with the priorities of the University. The current OIT plan will conclude in conjunction with the University Plan in 2025.
As with any strategic planning effort, it is critical that the produced plan becomes a “living” document within the organization. To ensure we are making steady progress on these objectives; a special project
has been created within our portfolio to track each of the items. This project card wall is reviewed monthly by OIT leadership and is integrated into the portfolio and project management processes.
