 PROJECT MANAGEMENT:
ENHANCING EFFICIENCIES AND ACCOUNTABILITY
Our Project Management Office (PMO) oversees the lifecycle of a project from initial request to successful completion.
 Our portfolio management process ensures that projects receive the right level of attention and oversight involving the various IT Governance councils, that projects align to the University strategic objectives and priorities, and IT resource efforts are focused to achieve the project objectives in a timely manner.
To better accommodate the growing portfolio, we’ve begun applying a more agile methodology to our project scoping and execution to allow for rapid delivery and better resource management. We’re introducing different processes for the project request phase to allow for a quicker initiation of smaller projects while still ensuring due diligence and governance oversight for
the larger initiatives. We are also focusing efforts into business process improvement as a component of each project or bundled in separate projects as needed.
To enhance the transition from project delivery to customer support, the PMO now reports
to Rachel Mulry, the Executive Director of Planning and Customer Service. Our new PMO director, Eureka Saunders, will expand her focus beyond the OIT Portfolio to developing
a community of practice within SMU for both project management and business process improvement. There is no shortage of projects or opportunities for business process development at SMU and we look forward to partnering throughout our campus to implement new and improved processes and services to support all facets of the University.
